Chad Ochocinco keeps fans informed using social media.
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco (formerly Chad Johnson) has completely submerged himself in social media to keep fans informed. He has been using Twitter for quite some time, interacting with over 800,000 fans and has his own uStream channel, Facebook profile and iPhone app. Ochocinco wanted to allow NFL fans a chance to get to know the real Ochocinco, without the filter from media networks. Ochocinco uses his various social networking sites to invite fans out to dinner with him, play Xbox Live with him or to break news on his "news network", OCNN.
Chad Ochocinco allows fans to get up close and personal with a star NFL wide receiver, an opportunity that can only be done through social media. Previously, fans would only be able to know NFL stars mostly from pre game or post game interviews. However, with the use of social media Ochocinco has allowed fans unprecedented access to his life and has created a brand for himself. This is a great example of how using social media can be beneficial to people and how social media is changing the way people get information.
I have the Chad Ochocinco Expirience iPhone app and I find it fascinating. I am not a Bengals fan but having access to a high profile NFL stars life is very appealing. One of my favorite feature of the app is "Ask Ocho" feature which consists of fans asking Ochocinco questions that range from, "favorite thing to buy from McDonalds" to how he feels about current events. Also, OCNN is very fast breaking news and surprisingly accurate. Sometimes Ochocinco will break a story before it is on ESPN's website. If anyone was ever wondering how to become a social media king, just take a page out of Chad Ochocinco's book as he has provided the blueprint for how to use social networking to his advantage.
